Less than a Week

So, here we are with less than a week before our family vacation and Amelia is diagnosed with pink eye in BOTH eyes AND an ear infection. My poor little monkey.

Honestly, she’s not showing any symptoms other than the pinkness of her eyes.

And, oh.my.gawd. was it a fight to get Amelia to allow us to put her eye drops in. We pleaded, begged, and bribed to no avail. We almost offered to tell her what her surprise is.

I can’t believe the holidays are over and that we’ve reach the final week before the trip! Hopefully, I’ll write about Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in the next day or so (I don’t have to be at work until Wednesday!)

Can You Keep a Secret?

Maybe ‘secret’ isn’t the right word.

Greg and I are horrible at keeping surprises from each other.

Let’s just say I know what my big Christmas present is:

And, it’s in that beautiful Empire Red color. I’ve been wanting a Kitchen aid mixer for a while. And, even though we don’t have the counter space to use it to its full potential, I’m still going to use it. Now, I just have  to figure out what I want to make with it…

Also, it doesn’t help that I know the mixer is sitting in the bedroom closet begging me to use it… Maybe, Greg will let me have my present early and let me make something for Thanksgiving with it.

In continuation of our inability to keep surprises from each other, Greg knows about the upgrade I made to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So now the trick is for Greg to pretend to be surprised when Mom and I share the surprise on Christmas morning (hey! I can keep a secret!) Since (accidentally) sharing the news Greg is even more excited about our trip in 57 days.

When I can’t sleep…

I blog. Sort of. And play Words with Friends.

Why am I up at 2:30am? It’s not like I had a lot of caffeine today. On the plus side, I don’t have to be at work until 11 so I will be able to sleep in… Amelia permitting.

May is such a busy month for us; it’s been non-stop weekends since the beginning and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. Eventually, I’d like to write about Easter, my promotion at work, Mother’s Day, Greg’s 33rd birthday, and other events but I don’t know when I’ll have the time (unless I stay up until 2:30am every night).

In other news, I’ve switched schools and I’m now a student of the University of Maryland! My first class begins June 1 and it’s accounting– should be easy, right?

Greg and I have enrolled Amelia into a Summer Camp of sorts. It’s a private school that offers a summer program and it sounds awesome! I hope there are a lot of opportunities for volunteers or chaperones! In addition to the summer school, Amelia is enrolled in Pre-K at the same private school. I can’t believe my baby girl is grown up!

We’re still on for the cruise in November and we’re hoping to get a trip to Ocean City, MD sometime in August before school starts.

Amelia has been asking Greg and I every week since October if we’re going back to Disney World. We tell her that we will go back one day. However, we have a plan: a surprise trip for Amelia’s 6th birthday! We’re totally going be like the Disney commercials where the kids are told once they wake up. Unfortunately, we have to wait a year and a half but that gives us enough time to save for a stay at the Polynesian or Animal Kingdom Lodge.

House hunting is coming along. We are meeting with the financial counselor in June to move on to the next step and we hope to have a home by next Spring at the latest.

So, there is a lot going on in my little world.

Christmas ’10

Well, Christmas has come and gone.

It totally doesn’t feel like a Sunday to me and I’m totally not ready to go back to work after having four consecutive days off (not counting working at the hospital this morning); I’m afraid to find out what’s waiting for me in my work inbox (well, the website’s inbox really). I wasn’t able to get as much done as I had hoped last Wednesday. Oh well… job security, right?

This Christmas was really good. We spent Christmas Eve getting Amelia’s new mattress and then hanging out with Grandma K (Greg’s Mom) and Ken. We had a great evening just catching up and opening gifts. Then I hosted Christmas at our place, for the very first time, and cooked a pretty big dish: Prime Rib! Surprisingly, it was pretty good; not the best piece of beef I’ve had (that was at Disney World), but I didn’t burn it, nor over cook it. And, sadly, I didn’t take any pictures of it. I also baked potatoes (a first, believe it or not) and made a green bean casserole. My Mom made home made rolls.

Amelia received a lot of nice gifts from everyone: A bike (her first), a new bed with new bedding (bed frame from Mom and Van, bedding from Sean), the Tag reader system (which she’s using very well and is enjoying), a lot of markers and coloring items, a lot of board games (Candy Land, Twister [really a joke gift from my girlfriend, Michele, as it came with a bottle of wine], and Disney Matching game), some socks, new jammies, new undies, and little knick knacks. Greg bought me a whole bunch of new clothes (shirts, dresses, shirts), Grandma (mine) gave us cash, and $55 worth of iTunes gift cards (gave $20 worth to Greg), and I bought Greg a food scale and other related items to support his diet (almost 70 pounds lost!!)

On to the pictures!

The items in the picture above came from Greg’s Dad (all the Fig’s goodies) and Greg’s grandparents from Alabama.

This was our tree with all the gifts wrapped (and the cat eying it up)

… and hiding behind the couch.

Amelia finally starts opening the presents!

Amelia loves her bike. We took her outside after dinner and she rode it around the tennis court by the condo. For someone who’s never ridden a bike before, she figured it out real quick! I wouldn’t be surprised if the training wheels come off this summer!

Below are some pictures taken while visiting Greg’s Mom and brother:

Candid picture of Greg, who I would like to say is the greatest husband, father, friend, and man I’ve ever known.

Grandma K’s Christmas Tree

Below are pictures that were taken when my family arrived and we started opening presents:

So, let me just tell you about Plants vs. Zombies; this game is highly addictive and totally worth the $2.99 for the iPhone 4 app. I have not stopped playing it since I’ve downloaded it (the phone battery is charging right now, otherwise this Christmas post would have never been written). I’ve played the computer version in the past and was too cheap to buy it for the iPhone (I don’t spend more than $0.99 on apps) until I received the iTunes gift cards! As soon as I loaded my iTunes account with the gift cards I downloaded the game and haven’t looked back. Seriously, pay the $2.99 and get the game. You won’t be sorry.

Thanksgiving 2010

This year we were joined by my father-in-law, Steve, my uncle from Chicago, Tommy, and my cousin, Nate, and his wife, Kate,  from North Carolina made it up; so we had a lot of out of town visitors!

*missing are my Mom and brother… who knows where they went*

Amelia and Olivia had a great time feeding the birds bread.

And my cousin announced her pregnancy! Olivia is going to be a big sister! The baby is due at the beginning of July. I am so freaking excited for her. And, I totally have baby on the brain now.

This year I made chorizo and apple stuffing and it was so effing good and Greg made the cranberry sauce which he is addicted to.

*stuffing is in the center of the table*

and once the food settled a little in our bellies it was time for dessert! We also sang Happy Birthday to my grandma (Amelia and Olivia’s great-grandma) since her birthday is next week.

It was a great Thanksgiving. I am so happy I was able to spend the day with those that I don’t get to see regularly.

Black Friday Shopping

I decided to sleep in for this Black Friday. Well, that and because Greg and I haven’t discussed what we wanted to get Amelia for Christmas.

I just finished our Black Friday shopping and saved a sh!t load of money! And, I did it all while sitting on the couch.

This year we bought Amelia the Leapfrog Tag Reader Ultimate Gift Pack

and we also bought Leapfrogs Learn to Read Super Book Pack for Amelia’s birthday since it was a great sale price and her birthday is weeks after Christmas!

In addition to the great items above, we’re getting Amelia her very first bike! I am so excited about the bike; I can’t wait until Christmas morning!

Monthly Update

It’s (almost) Summer time which means POOL TIME!

I love swimming. Like,  borderline addiction, love. And, I am so excited that Amelia is potty trained because that means we will be spending every free moment at the community pool!

We took Amelia on Monday for her first swim. She didn’t care for it at first but with in minutes she was jumping off the side of the pool! See for your self:

Or, better yet, watch a clip:

As you can tell, we have a camera that we can take underwater. Actually, it’s a underwater housing unit that we bought for my point and shoot camera to use on the cruise but never had the opportunity.

As previously mentioned, May was one helleva busy month. I had a photography gig and shot for 56Kay (all the pictures on their site were taken by me) and ended up meeting Matt Beilis (you should also check out his YouTube page; he’s awesome).

Matt Beilis and his band:

(I have a thing for drummers)

I love going to live shows; they’re so much fun. And, I get to meet and hang out with really awesome people.

School is keeping me busy… sorta. This particular course is kinda on the too easy side, so I don’t really pay that much attention to the lecture and breeze through the lab and quiz. I’ve maintained an A for the course without much effort. The next two classes that start next month are going to much more challenging as one of them is psychology.

The photography gig at the local hospital is going well. The commissions are starting to roll in and each week is a nice surprise! It’s kind of funny (in the non-haha way), I’ve noticed that I generate more sales in the two days that I work than the other chick does in the 5 days that she works (and she’s been working as a photographer for 2 years). I don’t know if it’s because I’m more sociable to the new parents, or that I (possibly) take better pictures. Though, it’s not like I am complaining, but a thought of interest that occurred to me.

We’re 3 months and twenty some-number of days until we arrive at Disney World! Amelia is getting so excited about meeting all her favorite characters. I’m starting to get a little excited as well, though I think it will really sink in once we reach August…. which at the rate the  months are flying by, it’ll be here soon!

We don’t have any concrete Summer plans. I was talking to my Mom about taking a girls trip to Ocean City, MD during the week at some point and she’s keen with that idea. The reason we’d visit during the week, aside from obvious reasons: cheaper room rates and low crowds, is because I have a shit load of vacation days to use; like in excess of 20+ days. And, it’s totally sad that I had a mild anxiety attack when I calculated and confirmed with HR how many days I have left… because I don’t want to miss work. I’m a freak. I know. It’s just that I hate having work pile up while I am gone. Because there isn’t anyone to replace me when I am out. Talk about job security, right? So, I’m going to have to find something to do and go to during the week to burn off some days. Joy.

I’m enrolling Amelia in dance classes this summer!
