Checking In

It’s been a while since I last wrote. Although, there are a lot of drafts… I just never finish writing, and then things change…. bla bla bla…

Anyway, 2017 has been prety good so far. Work finally moved to the new office, and it’s awesome. The views are great, the atmosphere is great, and it is pretty awesome in general. There are two downsides (though nothing major); the first is the office temp. You’d think being surrounded by floor to ceiling glass that it’d be hot as balls, but it’s actually damn nippy in there. And this is coming from someone whose never owned a coat and wore shorts/skorts in the winter. Now a days, I’ll sit at my desk with my wool coat on! Who knows what summer is going to be like. The second is the location of the bathroom in relation to where my desk is. It’s a damn city block away! Like literally. While, the benefits of getting extra walking in outweigh the location… but, when you gotta go, that’s a hell of a long walk.

2017 has been good to us, so far. I think all of the sickness has made it’s course. All of us, except Amelia, caught something. The latest for me was Strep Throat, which hurt like hell. Thank goodness the antibiotics worked quickly.

We received our tax overpayment this past week and Greg and I had a shopping spree at IKEA. We got a whole new bedroom set, including a new mattress, new shelves and bookcases, rug, and other little things. Like, we spent $1500 – not including Greg’s employee discount (which is 15%) or the $420 in cash that we got back from the recalled dressers. It was a long weekend of moving heavy stuff up and down three flights of stairs. And, we still have stuff to put together. But, Greg and I are totally loving our new bedroom set. We got the Hemnes line – so everything is coodinates. I’ve never slept in a brand new bed; every bed I’ve slept in since I first moved away from home was a hand-me-down. Nothing wrong with them, and they lasted years.. decades even. But, we were ready for something that was “ours”. It’s truly the little things that can make you happy.

I’ve enrolled Sofia into soccer this season. It’s more of a fundamentals of soccer than an actual soccer league. She’s hella excited, as am I. And, Amelia has expressed interest as well… though, she’s thinking she and Sofia will be on the same team. Had to break it to her that that won’t be possible given their age difference. But, either way they’re both excited.

I’ve booked Greg’s 40th birthday cruise! We’re excited for this big vacation. It’s a long ways away.. like 399 days away! A lot of time to kill between now and then. In the mean time, we’re looking at spending a week in Ocean City, MD this summer. It’s been decades since I’ve spent more than 2 or 3 days in Ocean City, so this’ll be fun. I think the girls will enjoy it. We’re likely going to book with the Francis Scott Key Resort because it pretty much offers everything we want and need on-site. And, offers a shuttle to the beach which would save money, and time, on parking!

Well, that’s enough for a small catch-up for now.

Disney 2012

Well, we’re home. Disney 2012 came and went. Amelia had a blast, especially on her birthday. We got to meet Ariel and Prince Eric, Repunzel, and Rosetta & Tink! All of whom made Amelia’s day extra special.

Greg and I took over 2,000 photos and we had about 275 Photopass pictures!

I’ll be uploading the pictures onto my Flickr account soon as well as writing a day by day ‘report’. I want to do this so Amelia can read it when she’s older and to put it in the Disney 2012 photo album.

Less than a Week

So, here we are with less than a week before our family vacation and Amelia is diagnosed with pink eye in BOTH eyes AND an ear infection. My poor little monkey.

Honestly, she’s not showing any symptoms other than the pinkness of her eyes.

And, oh.my.gawd. was it a fight to get Amelia to allow us to put her eye drops in. We pleaded, begged, and bribed to no avail. We almost offered to tell her what her surprise is.

I can’t believe the holidays are over and that we’ve reach the final week before the trip! Hopefully, I’ll write about Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in the next day or so (I don’t have to be at work until Wednesday!)

123 & And More

Only 123 days until we set sail to the Caribbean again; this time with my best-est girlfriend Michele and her family.

There was a period of about a week that we weren’t sure the cruise was still on (even though Greg and I paid off our balance in June) so Greg and I were debating on what to do – take a different cruise, NCL, which is longer and cheaper, or go back to Disney World and surprise Amelia.  In the event we had to cancel the cruise with Michele we decided to take an NCL cruise and keep our next Disney World trip as planned for January 2013.

Greg and I will be taking the two mandatory classes – the classes that are required to ‘graduate’ from the first time home-buyers program – in August. This means that we are this -><- close to house hunting with the ability to actually purchase! I am getting so freaking excited… whereas Greg, believe it or not, is somewhat getting cold feet! Greg is worried that we’ll pick the wrong house and end up like The Money Pit; also, it’s a little scary that this – the whole house hunting for real – is actually occurring and that a dream that he’s had as long as I’ve know him is about to come true.

Greg and I talk about our ‘house’ daily. Mainly, we talk about our necessities, such as minimum 3 bedrooms (Greg’s) and minimum two toilets (mine), two floors, open kitchen (no galley kitchens!) and a decent yard, as well as things we’re willing to over-look knowing that either it’s a cosmetically change (wood paneling) or something we can enhance or build off later (expanding the kitchen or knocking down/adding a wall).

We’ve informed our landlord of our plans and we’re renewing our lease for another 6 months and then going to a month-to-month lease.

It still seems so surreal! Greg and I could be homeowners in as few as 9 months!

Speaking of 9 months….

I’m 5 days late as of today. I haven’t taken any POAS tests because, frankly, I don’t trust them (and I have living proof as to why). However, I have an appointment later this month with my primary care physician and I’m going to request a blood test to check if things haven’t changed by then.

My cousin April had her baby on July 7th and Greg and I, with Amelia, visited this past weekend and took some amazing photos. Later, Amelia stated that she wants a baby sister and I told her that she’s going to have to ask Daddy, to which she does, and Greg’s response was “you just got a new kitten”. Amelia completely ignored Greg’s response and asks me “Mommy, will the new baby come out of me or you?” Amelia had everyone in the room laughing!

Amelia is doing so well in her summer school/camp. They go on weekly field trips, to a community pool twice a week, and all sorts of activities. I am so happy she’s getting to experience so much more at this new place.

Also, in a few weeks (8-9 I think), Amelia will officially be in pre-school! I can’t believe my little girl is growing up! I can’t believe that 6 months from today Amelia will be 5 years old!! FIVE.YEARS.OLD! Oh.my.gawd.

No Time to Rest

20110524-113724.jpg

So, so busy but it’s a good busy.

This past Friday, Lisa and I took the day off and drove out to Frederick, MD and checked out a new place for some all-you-can-eat crabs. Long story short, we weren’t impressed. Guess we’ll stick with our place over on the Eastern Shore.

We’re about five and a half months from our first family cruise!

This weekend, Greg is surprising Amelia and me with a new destination. All I know is that we’re still going to be in MD, but to somewhere we haven’t been before. I am very curious as to where we’re going.

On Sunday, we’re heading up to Fort Frederick to attend a BBQ and then on Monday we’re heading down to my Moms to hang out.

Lots of driving this weekend.

When I can’t sleep…

I blog. Sort of. And play Words with Friends.

Why am I up at 2:30am? It’s not like I had a lot of caffeine today. On the plus side, I don’t have to be at work until 11 so I will be able to sleep in… Amelia permitting.

May is such a busy month for us; it’s been non-stop weekends since the beginning and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. Eventually, I’d like to write about Easter, my promotion at work, Mother’s Day, Greg’s 33rd birthday, and other events but I don’t know when I’ll have the time (unless I stay up until 2:30am every night).

In other news, I’ve switched schools and I’m now a student of the University of Maryland! My first class begins June 1 and it’s accounting– should be easy, right?

Greg and I have enrolled Amelia into a Summer Camp of sorts. It’s a private school that offers a summer program and it sounds awesome! I hope there are a lot of opportunities for volunteers or chaperones! In addition to the summer school, Amelia is enrolled in Pre-K at the same private school. I can’t believe my baby girl is grown up!

We’re still on for the cruise in November and we’re hoping to get a trip to Ocean City, MD sometime in August before school starts.

Amelia has been asking Greg and I every week since October if we’re going back to Disney World. We tell her that we will go back one day. However, we have a plan: a surprise trip for Amelia’s 6th birthday! We’re totally going be like the Disney commercials where the kids are told once they wake up. Unfortunately, we have to wait a year and a half but that gives us enough time to save for a stay at the Polynesian or Animal Kingdom Lodge.

House hunting is coming along. We are meeting with the financial counselor in June to move on to the next step and we hope to have a home by next Spring at the latest.

So, there is a lot going on in my little world.

Rants & Updates

I don’t know if it’s because my cycle is ending and the hormones are still having their ‘fun’ with me (TMI, I know), or what, but today I became pretty angry at work and those that I report to. Today I truly felt ‘over worked & under appreciated’ when I was scolded at with regard to what tasks I had deemed priority and what were not.  Might sound petty to y’all, but given all the tasks that I am responsible for and how I am the only person that does these tasks – which means that when I am not at work these tasks do not get done – … everything is a big deal to me.

I’m starting to get to the point where I am reviewing the past five years at my current employer and realize that the next five years are, more than likely, going to be the exact same because there is absolutely no growth opportunities at this place. How can I apply what I’ve learned during the past 12 months since going back to school when I am stuck in a position that I can not apply this knowledge to?

I’ve finally gotten around to uploading our vacation pictures! As well as some picture’s of Amelia’s birthday. Greg didn’t want me to upload the pictures until he edited them, but I’ve become impatient and I know Greg’s grandparents have been wanting to see them as well (they check the Flickr account regularly).

Greg and I have begun to casually, yet seriously, look at houses and focus on area’s we want to live in. Ultimately, we’d like to buy a single family home but Greg is super picky on the areas were these homes are available so we might end up in a townhouse.

Only 9 more months until our cruise… I could get pregnant and have a baby by the time we cruise… which is completely possible.

Speaking of babies, my cousin April is going to have another baby girl! Olivia is excited to have a baby sister! And, I can say that Greg and I are, more or less, actively trying to conceive our second child. I’m hoping that we will have our second child by the end of 2011 (which means I have until March to get pregnant). I have a weird thing for numbers and the numbers 7 & 11 are my lucky number; well, Amelia was born in 2007 so I am hopeful that the second will be here in 2011. I’m weird, right?
